At York Hospital, we’re committed to investing in the future of our community’s high school seniors. That’s why we provide multiple college scholarship opportunities, through our Friends of York Hospital Scholarship and the Carroll Family and Michael C. Rossiter Scholarship for Volunteerism.
Friends of York Hospital Scholarship
The Friends of York Hospital Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that the application period for 2025 is now open for high school seniors in the York Hospital service area who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine and/or health care.
All applications must be received or postmarked by Monday, March 31, 2025, to be reviewed by the Friends of York Hospital Scholarship Committee, comprising hospital employees, physicians, and members of the Friends of York Hospital volunteer organization. This impartial selection committee evaluates the applicants’ high school records, standardized test scores, and extracurricular activities, including community involvement and work experience, to determine finalists to be interviewed.
Finalists are selected largely on the basis of financial need, academic merit, and health care objectives. Each will be contacted for a personal interview that will take place at York Hospital. Each interviewee will be notified by phone for an interview date and time. Applicants who don’t receive an invitation to interview will not be further considered.
About Friends of York Hospital
The Friends of York Hospital Scholarship Program began in June of 1962 and is funded through generous donations from the Physician’s Committee and the York Hospital Apothecary; annual membership dues of $20 from the Friends of York Hospital; the ever-popular Holiday Basket Raffle held each December; and donations from community members.
Three scholarships to be awarded
This year (2025), the Friends of York Hospital will award three $5,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who reside within the hospital’s service area (the southern York County, Maine towns of Kittery, Eliot, the Berwicks, Sanford, Lebanon, Kennebunk, Wells, Ogunquit, and York), and who plan to have a career in health care. Scholarship awards may affect financial aid eligibility. Applicants should talk to school guidance counselors for details.
Scholarship recipients must enroll as full-time students in the upcoming fall semester and continue in school for the entire academic year in a health care curriculum. We ask at the conclusion of the first semester of college that scholarship recipients send an enrollment verification letter from the college/university to:
